Project 1: Famous Architect

Project 1: Famous Architect

In the first project, a group of 3 students are asked choose a building and research three materials that are use in it's construction.

The people is my group is Sarah, Shazleen and I. The building that we chose is the Earth Brick House by Yasuhiro Yamashita. The 3 main materials is glass, brick and terrazzo. We had to identify the characteristics of each materials and the reason that the architect choose it to be used in their building.

Anchor 1

I had a lot of fun doing this project. It was interesting and ambitious of the architect to do this building. I learn that to create the feeling that you want in the building, correct materials must be used. Moreover, this project has given me an opportunity to explore and research about different materials. This would be useful for me in the future.

Project 2: Form , Space and Pattern: An Experiential Exploration

This is a group project. we had to form a group of 6 and select a building in Malaysia. My group mates are Su ling, Peidi, Shazleen, Pui Yan, and Sarah. We chose Lantern Hotel in Petaling Street as our site.

The requirement for the project is making a mood board, a board to introduce the site and the materials used for construction. In the site itself, each member is suppose to choose a space to experience and study. The space that I have chosen in Lantern Hotel is the cafe.

Project 2

From this project, I have learnt about the importance of site visits. It is not the same as searching about information online. One can feel and experience the space with the feeling that different types of materials give. I also learnt about how architects and designers use different materials to show the concepts that they have created of buildings. In this building, they have combined modern and traditional elements,so the materials used such as brick and concrete to show this.
